England end World's five-year winning streak in Soccer Aid 2024

England earned their first Soccer Aid win since 2018

The fixture was once again being staged to raise money for UNICEF

England earned their first Soccer Aid win since 2018 as they beat the World XI 6-3 at Stamford Bridge. The fixture was once again being staged to raise money for UNICEF, with the match broadcast live on ITV1, ITVX, and STV. This year's event has already raised over 15 million, with donations still coming in.

England took the lead early on through a stunning strike from Mark Wright. The former TOWIE star left World XI goalkeeper David James with no chance as he fired into the top corner. England doubled their lead shortly after when Robbie Keane headed home a cross from David Beckham. The World XI pulled a goal back through a penalty from Ronaldinho, but England restored their two-goal lead when Wayne Rooney scored from close range.

The World XI came out fighting in the second half and pulled another goal back through a stunning free-kick from Rivaldo. However, England were not to be denied and they sealed the victory with two late goals from Jamie Redknapp and Joe Cole. The win was England's first since 2018 and it will give them a huge boost ahead of next year's World Cup.

Speaking after the match, England manager Harry Redknapp said: "I'm delighted with the win. We played very well and deserved the victory. It's been a great night for everyone involved and we've raised a lot of money for UNICEF."

World XI manager Jose Mourinho said: "I'm disappointed with the result, but I'm proud of my players. They gave everything they had and they never gave up. We will be back next year and we will be looking to win the trophy."

Soccer Aid is a British annual charity event that has raised over 106 million in aid of UNICEF UK through ticket sales and donations from the public. The match is played between England and a team of international players, and is always a sell-out.
